When my vacation was so suddenly interrupted on July 12 of this year, I had no idea that where I broke down would be
An asset to this inconvenient situation!
I was towing a 30’ Airstream . I pulled into a rest area around noon on July 12, 2009. For some reason when I exited
my truck I went to each wheel and felt the hubs with the back of my hand. The front wheel on the passenger side was
so hot I could barely touch it. My friend Al and I pulled that wheel off, and discovered major damage to my brake pads
and my axle had been deeply scared. The day being a Sunday, we chose to spend the night at the rest stop.
The next morning I research and found that the nearest Airstream Dealer was only 52 miles away. And it happen to be
Airstream of Western Pennsylvania! When I first called, I had to leave a message. About 30 minutes later I received a call
from Carl Ohr their head mechanic. He sent his brother out to tow me in.
Upon arriving at their shop I was greeted by Jack Fedorek the Chief Salesman/Office Manager.
He took all my information and recommended some Hotels in the area. On Tuesday an insurance adjuster showed up,
it was determined between him and Carl that a new axle needed to be ordered to replace the one that was damaged.
Jack did the leg work on ordering a new axle, unfortunately he found out that Airstream nor Dexter had none on the floor.
The bottom line was that Dexter would have to manufacture an axle. At first they stated that it would take a week and a
half to get it to the shop. Due to some arm twisting and begging by Jack and Randy McNeely of Airstream, the axle was
finished on Friday of that week. Jack sent a driver to the Dexter Plant to pick up the axle, he had it back by Saturday
Morning. Carl and his brother came in on Saturday morning and had my Airstream ready by 1:00PM.
My entire experience with the personnel at Airstream of Western Pennsylvania was positive. My wife and I thanked the
Good Lord that we broke down where we did. They knowing that I was not going to be a repeat customer did not matter!
My Wife and I deeply appreciate what they did for us to get us back on the road. We would recommend them with flying
Colors to anyone in and around their area or anyone just passing thru!
